| How did you choose to become a masseur? |
I've always enjoyed making other people feel good. Often my friends and family will tell me that just by putting my hands on them they feel better, and so I took some courses to learn how to do better what apparently was already being done naturally. But I did not think of doing it as a profession; I always liked to work with kids, and I became a school teacher and worked as a teacher for a while. After some time I left Buenos Aires and went to the United States. I spoke no English, and started to do massage for a living, which actually was the perfect career because I really enjoyed traveling and I found this job to be a great profession to take with me wherever I was going. |
| Why is massage good for our general well being? |
There are many answers to this. I can tell you first the way this question is usually answered: Massage reduces muscle tension, improves blood circulation, induces better lymph movement, increases mobility and the range of motion of joints, stimulates and soothes the nervous system, enhances the skin condition, results in better digestion and intestinal function and of course relieves acute and chronic pain. These are all good answers, when massage is done on a regular basis, but it is possible to say all these in only three words: it reduces stress. Beside the specific medical massage that may be necessary for a very particular reason, I like to think of massage as a way to help a person to reduce the stress of his or her daily living, as a way to help to reconnect the person with his or her own body, as a way to bring a moment of peace, a moment of stillness, a moment of harmony.
But to offer this is not always very easy. My experience here in Romania has been that what most men want is to have a very strong massage in order to relax those very tired muscles after they have been 'killing' themselves in the gym, while women want an anti-cellulitic massage in order to look better. Of course these are very good reasons for a massage, but there is also much more to it. But it needs time; people need to connect back to their bodies, and it is not an easy thing to do. |
| What kind of massage do you prefer? |
I really like everything I do, but my specialty is the face massage. It is a very unique experience. |
| To whom is massage good for? |
Anybody that lives in a big city, or that feels some kind of stress, can benefit from a good massage. |
| How often do you recommend having a massage? |
If you can afford it, you can have a massage every day!
What I would recommend is to have a massage twice a week. But also once a week, or once every fifteen days, or once a month, or whatever you can do is always better than not having any. |
| Is there a real anti-cellulitic massage? |
If we exercise regularly and follow a basic good diet, anti-cellulitic massage may be a good complement to these things, but keeping in mind that the amount of cellulite an individual has is mostly due to genetic composition. |
| How can it affect us, the fact that we are neglecting our body? |
Our house is the instrument we have to feel protected, our car is the instrument we have to move around and our body is the instrument we have to live our lives. We know what will happen if we neglect the house or the car even for a week: the house will get soiled and humid; the car will not run as well and will get old sooner, etc. Exactly the same tends to happen to us, except we can always buy a new car or move to another house.
We all want to be happy, but we keep looking for happiness to come from outside. It is important to understand that the external world is a reflection of our internal world. Feel good about yourself, and then the world around you will be a beautiful place to be. |
| Which is your greatest professional achievement so far? |
I had a client who was very ill, actually dying. The moments I was able to bring some comfort to him, brought a deep sense of the role of my profession. |
| Which is your most memorable professional experience? |
Once a pregnant client called me at about three in the morning. She urgently needed a massage to reduce her discomfort. It was just wonderful to see her happy and whole again. |
